On 22 July 2026, the High Court struck out a multi-million-pound conspiracy claim brought against Murria Solicitors’ clients by fugitive Indian billionaire diamond merchant, Mehul Choksi.

Mehul Choksi alleged that in May 2021, six defendants, including our two clients and the Government of India, conspired to unlawfully kidnap, torture and extrajudicially render him from Antigua to India, via Dominica. Our clients firmly denied all allegations from the outset.

In a decisive procedural victory, Galwinder Singh Kang, Director and Head of Litigation at Murria Solicitors, successfully obtained a High Court order requiring Choksi to provide £252,000 in security for legal costs. The application was robustly contested by Choksi’s legal team, led by Edward Fitzgerald KC.
Following Choksi’s failure to comply with the court order, the High Court formally struck out the proceedings against our clients and ordered Choksi to pay their legal costs.

The litigation presented a web of significant and complex legal issues. While Choksi filed the claim in the UK, he is currently detained in Belgium fighting extradition to India over an alleged $2 billion Punjab National Bank fraud, with core allegations spanning Antigua and Dominica. Addressing and deafeating the claim required detailed analysis of complex legal issues, including cross-border jurisdiction, unlawful means conspiracy, maritime law and state and diplomatic immunity.
