Arrested – Compensation for Mistaken Identity

On 8 April 2013, our client was at his girlfriend’s property when Police Officers from West Midlands Police attended looking for a previous occupant of the property. His girlfriend had only recently moved in. Despite providing his details and bearing no resemblance to the ‘wanted’ person, our client was arrested and taken to Court. Court records showed that the description of our client and the ‘wanted’ person were totally different. Our client was immediately released. On 14 May 2013 our client instructed our Police Actions Team to pursue a claim against the Police for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment. On 24 February 2014 West Midlands Police agreed to pay our client £6000 compensation.

The case was handled by our Mr G S Kang, head of our Police Actions Team.
