Home Office error results in compensation

Jan 9 2013

The Secretary of State for the Home Department has paid a couple £35,000 in compensation for an error made by the Home Office in dealing with an application made by the husband for leave to remain in the United Kingdom following his marriage. Despite the Home Office acknowledging receipt of the application, immigration officers attended our Client’s home and arrested the husband as an immigration overstayer. The couple spent a month apart before being reconciled. The Home Officer acknowledged its mistake and paid our Clients £35,000 in compensation plus payment of their legal costs.

The matter was conducted by our Mr G S Kang, Partner.
