CCTV exonerates client in Wrongful Arrest case

Dec 17 2012

On 24 September 2011 our Client was granted conditional bail by Birmingham Magistrates Court and one of the conditions required him to report to Thornhill Road Police Station between 18.00 hours and 19.00 hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On 29 September 2011 our Client was arrested by officers of West Midlands Police for breaching his bail conditions. It was alleged that he had failed to report to Thornhill Road Police Station as required. Our Client told the officers that he had complied and told them to check the CCTV at the front office of the Police Station. Whilst our Client was in custody the arresting officer went to check the CCTV and was able to identify that our Client had in fact attended as required. Having viewed this footage our Client was released immediately. Our Client spent approximately 1 hour 40 minutes in detention. On 20 September 2012 settlement was reached with West Midlands Police agreeing to pay our Client the sum of 1,000 compensation plus his legal costs.

The matter was conducted by our Mr G S Kang, Partner.
