Met Police update guidelines on use of Police National Computer following Murria Case

Sep 12 2012

Our client was arrested on a warrant "backed with bail" by magistrates in November 2011. The document had been sent to the police and mistakenly entered onto the Police National Computer as a warrant "with no bail". As a result, Penelope, from Chichester in West Sussex, was held at Uxbridge Police Station overnight. It later transpired that officers had been aware of the discrepancy between the "paper" warrant and the details on the Police National Computer and wrongly trusted the computer records over the source document. New guidelines have subsequently been issued.

Penelope received an apology from the Metropolitan Police, 3,000 compensation and payment in full of her legal costs.

This matter was handled by Mr Galwinder Kang, Partner.
